Karin Lawton

Fiber

As a teenager growing up in Germany, Karin enjoyed sewing her own clothes. After high school she completed a traditional sewing apprenticeship. Learning to knit was part of her elementary school's curriculum and she cannot imagine life without a knitting project. Lately her focus has been on up-cycling used denim pants through patchwork and embroidery. It brings her joy to give these discarded textiles a second life by turning them into unique statement pieces. She also collects catalogues of fabric samples and small "useless" fabric remnants and turns them into zippered pouches of all sizes. While she greatly appreciates her sewing machine, she cherishes the slow meditative process of hand stitching and embroidery.
