Kurt Wuerker

Copper

Kurt's goal is to present what is found in our regional landscape in an interesting style. He tries to present shapes found in nature through a combination of different finishes to add interest to the finished piece. He believes that using a finishing technique that does not try to replicate what we see in a natural setting encourages a fresher perspective and appreciation of shape and form. Exaggeration of shapes is also used in his work such as the cactus flowers which he attaches to his prickly pear sculptures. To Kurt, his flowers look more like an iris than the actual flower that he sees on the plant in its natural setting. The iris has a more interesting shape and ads a delicate look which he likes as a contrast to the spiked cactus.
